So whats the difference between marijuana and cannabis?

Well actually marijuana and cannabis as you all most probably know are the same thing but we have I brought up this topic? It is quite interesting to see just who uses the word marijuana and who calls it predominanlty cannabis and to test this we are going to use Google news as an indicator.

A simple search for news on the word cannabis brings up all the entries from the UK and a news search for the term marijuana brings up all entries from the USA. So although cannabis has various names each name seems to have a popular use in different countries.

‘Marijuana’ was created as a negative slang word for cannabis in the 20s and 30s. White men wanted to give it a negative Mexican steriotype, hence the spanish word, marijuana which means something like devil weed or plant.

Before then it was only called cannabis and was found in pharmacies across the country for pain.
