Well actually this news came out a few weeks ago in the UK but is still an important point to be raised on how cannabis is viewed by different countries and governments.
David Nutt a top drugs scientist for the UK government openly said that his children have tried Cannabis and that it was less harmful than alcohol and tobacco, and that it has been wrongly upgraded to class B from C. So you must be thinking great! Now just like in America how they have Obama in favour of legalizing marijuana the same will happen in the UK…. well no! He was sacked by the home secretary Alan Johnson which also resulted in another two collegues voluntarily leaving as a sign of denial of free speach and for Nutt acting like a true scientist.
It sure does not look like the UK will be legalizing cannabis anytime soon and this brings back home that the legalization movement in the US is based on totally different conditions than simple legalization. The UK and many other countries do not have crime levels associated with marijuana or problems with cartels like the US so therefore have greater resources to tackle the issue whereas the US has not legalized it for medical use in order to free up resources to go after the big organised crime groups.
New Obama’s policy proves to very good news for medical marijuana users and its dispensaries since the new policy will allow all these legit business and medical users to not be arrested. This give all the users and businesses to operate without the fear of being arrested for visiting state santioned outfits.
If you are looking for a very innocent interpretation of why we should legalize marijuana, then there is no one better than Bob Marley to tell you why. To sum it up, its just a plant! Its just a herb!
Although there has been a huge momentum behind the Illinois Senate bill to legalize marijuana for the use of medical uses, it is being called a “long shot”. The only way that Americans can see marijuana legalized in their state if one state initiates the process and then the rest will folllow. However this may or may not happen as it seems like ministers are willing to discuss the matter to perhaps only give false hope or to prevent giving any direct answer.
To put it quite simply if the US can ban gambling to the masses, this should give an indication to everyone that they are in no hurry to legalize marijuana. Although marijuana has many supporters for its use there are plenty against it such as polititions and religious groups. If the battle is to be won for its open use amongst chronic medical patients then it certainly looks like a marathon of a war rather than a quick victory.
“It’s time to debate” – is what the governer of California Arnold Schwarzenneger has recently said in a speech this week. California is the American state that is producing the most amount of marijuana and has become it number one cash crop, over taking the production of its other quality products such as wine.
The question is why has all of a sudden Schwarzenneger given a hint to the possibility of legalizing marijuana? Is it becuase we are in a recession and it has becoming tempting to legalize and tax marijuana to generate more money for the state? Is it because more and more pro marijuana activists are pilling on the pressure to governers that instead of Schwarzenneger fighting back he has said lets debate but with the intent of not legalizing mj and only to pass time in a diplomatic fashion?
Although their seems to be hope that marijuana will be legalized, the notion of the sole reason to do this for the benefit of generating money for the state has already been rejected as the Schwarzenneger and even Obama has said that there are other ways to do this.
